The Inspection Process

Standards of Practice

Katz Family Home Inspectors follow both the InterNachi and American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI) standards of Practice and their codes of ethics.  ASHI and InterNachi are the worlds leading trade organizations for home inspectors.

Richard Katz holds Insurance policies for errors and ommissions and personal liability.  Policy information is available upon request.

Scope of the Inspection

All inspection scheduling is handled by KFHI using the program ShowingTime.  We have completed background checks through the Minneapolis Area Association of Realtors and have electronic lock box access.

We use the industry-leading Home Inspector Pro (HIP) software to deliver a complete and comprehensive inspection report.

Areas covered are:
Grounds, roof, garage, siding, chimney and fireplace, drainage, electrical service entrance, decks/patio, interior rooms, windows, doors, appliances, electrical panel (sub-panel), electrical outlets and fixtures, HVAC, gas meter and gas appliances, plumbing, water heater, attic insulation, foundation, Radon (optional), Sewer line evaluation (optional) and other critical home components.

Report delivery

We always recommend that the home buyer is present and a part of the inspection.  Being on site allows the inspector to go over the methodology of the inspection, point out pluses and minuses, and to address any questions the home buyer may have.
At the conclusion of the inspection, the inspector will go over the report and touch on the key points that were found.
Each report is delivered digitally (hard copies upon request) by the end of that day.
Know that we stand behind our services and encourage our clients to reach out to us after the inspection if they are unclear on any of the points of the inspection.
